Regional Good Practice Seminar Inclusive Future for Southeast Asia: Labour Mobility, Skills and Growth in Bangkok, Thailand

Staffhouse was again invited by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in coordination with the ASEAN Secretariat, to the Regional Good Practice Seminar discussing an Inclusive Future for Southeast Asia: Labour Mobility, Skills and Growth on 9-10 April 2019, at the Crowne Plaza Bangkok Lumpini Park Hotel, in Bangkok, Thailand.

Staffhouse was represented by one of its Managing Directors, Manny Gomez, who was asked to speak about “Effective job-matching and ethical recruitment”. Gomez presented the business case of the “Employer Pays” model and spoke about the factors that could encourage mainstream manpower companies to shift to more ethical practices (i.e. capacity building, growing demand, government regulations, and increased awareness).

The event had a diverse and representative group of participants to foster new exchanges, links and partnerships among relevant actors, including:

  • ASEAN Member State relevant national authorities
  • Employers and industry associations
  • International labour recruiters
  • Trade unions
  • Migrant diaspora and migrant worker organizations
  • Civil society organizations
  • Representatives of trade and investment partner countries and global businesses
  • Representatives of key regional bodies and international organizations
  • International experts in labour mobility, human capital development and circulation, ethical recruitment and employment, and protection of migrant workers rights
  • __________________________________________________________________________

The Regional Good Practice Seminar was supported and informed by two regional initiatives implemented by the IOM in Southeast Asia: Strengthening Capacity on Skills recognition, Recruitment and Labour Migration Information in Support of ASEAN Integration (funded by the IOM Development Fund) and Poverty Reduction through Safe Migration, Skills Development and Enhanced Job Placement in Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Myanmar and Thailand (PROMISE) (funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation).
